Pennsylvania’s Osteopathic Colleges Hold Graduations
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) welcomed a total of 694 new D.O.s to the osteopathic family during recent commencement ceremonies.
POMA would like to congratulate all of the new D.O.s and welcome them to the osteopathic family!

LECOM/Gannon Affiliation Renewed
On April 20, 2010, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) renewed its affiliation agreement with Gannon University in Erie. The affiliation will offer students the opportunity to complete their medical education in two phases over an eight-year period.
The “4 4” LECOM Medical Program provides undergraduate students an opportunity to continue their education in medicine at LECOM after completing requirements at Gannon University. Students who have successfully completed the first four years of the program will receive a baccalaureate degree from Gannon and, at the end of the four years of medical school, LECOM will award the D.O. degree.
Sharma Selected as Schweitzer Fellow
Shipra Sharma, a first-year medical student at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill, was recently selected as a 2010-2011 Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellow by The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. Over the next year, Ms. Sharma will join approximately 200 other Schweitzer fellows across the country in conceptualizing and carrying out service projects that address the unmet health-related needs of underserved individuals and communities.
The mission of The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship is to develop individuals who are dedicated and skilled in addressing the health needs of underserved communities, and whose example influences and inspires others.

PCOM Holds Commencement Ceremonies
PCOM graduated 256 doctors of osteopathic medicine during its 119th commencement ceremonies on June 5, 2010, at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Jim Gardner, news anchor for WPVI-TV, delivered the commencement address.
On May 23, 2010, the second class of 75 D.O.s graduated from PCOM’s Georgia Campus. David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., director of The Satcher Health Leadership Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, and former United States Surgeon General, was the keynote speaker during the event, which was held at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Graduating seniors were also recognized during a Dinner Dance at the Atlanta Marriott at Gwinnett Place on May 20.
