Dr. Tumasz Leads POFPS Board of Trustees Meeting

POFPS President John V. Tumasz, D.O., presided over the society’s board of trustees meeting on August 7, 2010, at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

During the board meeting, the Task Force on Family Physician Services and Reimbursements was formed. Members of the task force include chairman Bernard J. Bernacki, D.O.; Joan M. Grzybowski, D.O.; Kieren P. Knapp, D.O.; Glenn G. Miller, D.O.; Katherine E. Galluzzi, D.O.; Carol L. Henwood, D.O.; and ACOFP student chapter representatives Katelin M. Haley, OMS-II, and Sean P. Perrine, OMS-II.

The board also made two recommendations to the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicans (ACOFP) Nominating Committee for the ACOFP Board of Governors. Katherine E. Galluzzi, D.O., was submitted as a candidate to the Board of Governors, and Kate H. Aufiero, D.O., was submitted as a candidate for the Resident Academic member of the Board of Governors.

As members of the POFPS mentor program, 13 osteopathic medical students were invited to attend the POFPS convention. The students enjoyed the experience of attending the board meeting and educational lectures. POFPS 35th Convention Draws Large Crowd

Once again, the POFPS convention attracted a huge crowd! The Thirty-fifth Annual POFPS Convention, held August 6-8, 2010, at The Hershey (Pa.) Lodge, was a great success with 338 registered physicians attending the meeting.

Convention committee co-chairmen Deanne S. Endy, D.O., and Suzanne K. Kelley, D.O., are to be commended for a job well done. The success of this year’s program was a result of their hard work and tremendous effort.

VIPs Gather for Annual POFPS Convention

The POFPS Convention, held August 6-8, 2010, at The Hershey Lodge, was attended by state and national dignitaries.

Among this year’s VIPs were Jan D. Zieren, D.O., immediate past president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). Board certified in family practice, she maintains a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, and is a physician advisor to Nightingale Nurses Home Health. A fellow of the ACOFP, Dr. Zieren is president of the Arizona Society of the ACOFP and president-elect of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association.

 

 

 

POMA President Alice J. Zal, D.O., was also on hand for the convention. Board certified in family practice with a certificate of added qualifications in geriatrics, she is a family physician in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She is also a clinical assistant professor at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. A fellow of the ACOFP, Dr. Zal received the POFPS’ Raymond J. Saloom, D.O., Memorial Award in 2001 for her dedication to the art of family practice and to the osteopathic profession.

Dr. Stevens Presents Annual Stella Lecture

On Saturday, August 7, 2010, John S. Stevens, Jr., D.O., presented the Eleventh Annual Joseph W. Stella, D.O., Lecture during the POFPS Convention in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Stevens is chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology department at St. Luke’s Hospital — Allentown (Pa.) Campus. He is also a partner with Wescosville (Pa.) OB-Gyn & OB-Gyn Care Associates. Dr. Stevens is a board member and distinguished fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The POFPS would like to thank Dr. Stevens for an excellent lecture.
