The Voice of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania!
Member Benefits and Services
Legislative representation -- POMA is your advocate to Pennsylvania legislators, governmental bodies, third-party payors and health-related organizations. We monitor proposed legislation and regulations and either actively promote their passage or work for their defeat. And, as a member, you can request access to and/or copies of legislative bills from the POMA Department of Publications/Public Relations.
Information -- POMA publishes an annual membership directory, a quarterly professional journal and a timely newsletter, which is available through e-mail. News articles are also featured on the website to keep you informed about your profession, your fellow members and issues affecting the osteopathic medical profession.
Benefits program -- POMA's program includes disability income protection insurance, accidental death and dismemberment policies, and overhead expense insurance. A POMA Foundation credit card supporting the student scholarships is also available. We continually explore new programs that will benefit POMA members and osteopathic medical students.
Educational opportunities -- To help you fulfill your continuing medical education requirements, POMA holds an annual scientific symposium worth over 40 Category 1 AOA CME credits. POMA district/society programs throughout the state, offer additional opportunities to earn AOA CME credits.
Peer review and advocacy -- POMA acts as an advocate for individual physicians in any problem a D.O. may encounter with private insurers, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Medicare or the Department of Public Welfare. Every POMA member can request impartial peer review by osteopathic physicians in ethics and grievance cases and insurance disputes.
Impaired Physician Program -- POMA offers peer support for the troubled physician through an affiliation with the Physicians' Health Programs.
Opportunities to participate in organizational affairs -- POMA members throughout the state can present their concerns to their individual district leadership, to the various POMA committees and, if necessary, through the district to the POMA House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the association. POMA members interested in serving on a committee should respond to the call for committee members, which is published each year in the POMA Newsletter.
